Membership Components and Dues

The Race Team

The Race Team competes in regattas throughout the school year and practices 2 times a week at the Lake Lanier Sailing Club. Any undergraduate student at UGA can join the Race Team.

The Race Team caters to a wide range of sailing experience levels... whether you grew up sailing or have never sailed before, there is a spot for everyone in the UGA community on the Race Team. We do not hold tryouts and our team has all the resources necessary to teach new members from the ground up, therefore, no experience is required.

At the Lake Lanier Sailing Club, we have access to 10 C420s, two Flying Scotts, two Hobie Cats, and all the resources we need to conduct full, on-water, practices to help prepare our members for the competitive regatta experience.
Competitive College Sailing is unique because the competitions (regattas) are co-ed. Among the competitiveness of the sport, the College Sailing community promotes and encourages a friendly social atmosphere among the other teams. Making new friends from other schools at regattas is a very frequent occurrence. Being a member of our Race Team will be hard work, but a very rewarding experience.

The Cruising Team

Our newest program within UGA Sailing, our cruising team, is overall a lower level of commitment and less competitive. The cruising team prioritizes teaching the sport of sailing to newcomers and is a way for members to get some time on the water whilst avoiding the full race team/ competitive aspect.

Cruising team is both a great way to be introduced to the sport of sailing and a great way of getting involved in a social group on campus. Cruising team members are encouraged to attend social gatherings that the club hosts like tailgates, cook-outs, semi-formals and more.

No experience is required for the cruising team. We'll teach you everything you need to know to get on board.
