The Sailing Club at UGA has been actively promoting the sport of sailing to university students for over 40 years. No experience is necessary to get involved.
The money collected from dues funds our membership fees at the Lake Lanier Sailing Club (primary operations location) in Flowery Branch, GA, travel for regattas across the southeast, and maintaining a nice team set of gear.
The race team competes within SAISA, the southeastern division of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association against schools like Auburn University, University of Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, College of Charleston, Duke, UNC-Wilmington, NC State, Florida State, University of Florida, New College, Jacksonville University, Florida Tech, Clemson University, University of South Florida, University of Miami, etc. Chalk talks are posted to our YouTube channel for classroom learning on members' own time. We attend 6 or more regattas every semester (weekend trips) across the southeast and practice weekly.
Our Cruising Program sails approximately 2 times/week on dinghy sail boats (C420s), Flying Scotts, and Hobie Cats at Lake Lanier Sailing Club. Classroom sessions are held on campus once a week, covering sailing topics to help sailors at any level learn to sail and improve their skills. The cruising program aims to provide UGA students with a strong foundation of knowledge to apply in any sailing capacity, and to give students the confidence to charter boats in their own recreational time (ie. family, friend vacations).
Both parts of the club are driven to instill a lifelong love for sailing and share it with as many people as possible, whether you feel called to race or cruise.
